The short version

We don't track you, we don't set cookies, and we don't sell or share your information for advertising. The only personal information we handle is what you choose to email us, plus the technical details any website receives when you visit.

What we collect and why

If you email us

When you send a correction, catalogue photos, photos of your bike or a question, we receive your name, email address, your message and anything you attach.

  • Why: to reply, to check and record the facts you send, and to credit you if you ask.
  • Legal basis: our legitimate interest in running the guide and answering readers. Crediting you by name, or publishing a photo of your bike, happens only with your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
  • How long: we keep emails and attachments while we deal with them, and delete them within two years of our last contact. If you're credited on the site, we keep your name with the credit until you ask us to remove it.

When you visit the site

Like any website, the site's host receives your IP address, browser details and the pages you request. Our host is Cloudflare, which uses this to deliver the pages and protect the site from attacks.

  • Legal basis: our legitimate interest in keeping the site running and secure.
  • Analytics: we don't run any. If we ever add them, we'll update this notice and the cookies page first.

Fonts

Our pages load their fonts from Google Fonts. To fetch them, your browser sends Google your IP address and browser details. We use Google Fonts so the pages display as designed; the legal basis is our legitimate interest in that. Google handles this under Google's privacy policy.

Links to other sites

Links to Amazon, eBay and Facebook take you to their sites, where their own privacy notices and cookies apply. Links marked (Ad) go to Amazon: when you follow one, Amazon may place or read cookies on your browser on its own site to record that you came from us, so we can be paid a commission. We don't receive your personal details from Amazon.

Who else sees your information

  • Cloudflare hosts the site and forwards email sent to [email protected] to our mailbox.
  • Google provides that mailbox (Gmail) and serves the fonts.

Each handles information under its own privacy terms, and either may process it outside the UK, including in the United States. We don't sell your information or share it with anyone else unless the law requires it.

Your rights

You can ask us to give you a copy of the personal information we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or restrict or object to how we use it. Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time. Email [email protected]. We'll reply within one month.

Complaints

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, please tell us first. You can use the form below or email [email protected]. We'll acknowledge your complaint within 30 days and deal with it without undue delay.

You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK's data protection regulator: ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or 0303 123 1113.

Children

This site isn't aimed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly ask them for personal information.

Changes

If we change how we use personal information, we'll update this notice and the date at the top.
